Like art, I’m a work of it,

Carefully I have curated a being,

One that I have become,

A character I cannot step out of,

By day, one way

And at night, the other,

This being,

A full embodiment of peace in sunlight,

And chaos by night,

What a shame!

Do I fancy this thing that I am?

Am I far from being saved?

A question I leave unanswered,

I pitch my tent by the rivers of shame,

Blown by the air of coyness,

I wear quietness to disguise this odd character,

Friendship becomes a burden for the fear of ruining souls,

Am I far from reach ?

I mean the reach of karma,

For sins sinned,

For souls damaged,

By this hand,

By this that I have become.

What my eyes have seen,

Tales I couldn’t tell,

The one that I am,

I mean, the one that you see,

Is miles and yards away from my being,

But what I am,

Is a toilet right in the middle of a sitting room,

I’ve got hands with sharp pins pegged into it,

At every clap,

There’s pain,

With every move, with every step and decision?

I have pegged the pins myself,

Hence they are always tucked in my pockets,

In disguise as a gentle man,

Oh far from it,

I’ve held hands with my hands,

And I’ve caused these hands to bleed,

I did as well pat backs,

Oh you can imagine,

The backs bled too,

Man!

What I do!

How have I missed it?

And how did I become this being?

Exactly how you want it,

Just the right amount of flair,

You’re beautiful,

just exactly how you describe it,

The exact meaning you give it,

You’re beautiful,

just exactly the way you were made,

Hmmm, in God’s likeness,

You are beautiful,

Just as simple as that,

You are beautiful.

Coffee 🫢

Times have come and gone

Souls have been lost, yet the worth is none,

The essence of life is unknown,

Where we go after life is still a theory we don’t own,

What you and I make of life, believe me is of  personal gains,

Days will go, months will go, what remains?

Impact!

Years that have gone, with the people in it,

The only thing we remember is what they didn’t leave with,

and that’s their impact in life,

A legacy that can’t not be changed till we ascend as well,

History is part of life’s lagacy,

History is made by those who are no longer here,

They are gone but their impact is still here.

When we go, our impact stays.

That’s all I’m saying.

Let’s deviate

So, what’s impact to you and I?

A little child has the power to influence her parents,

That’s how strong impact is.

A little shift in behaviour has its influence on the next person

That gives a lasting impression

Away from deviation,

I cannot change you, you can not change me,

But I can make you see the effect of your being.

I can be a mirror to you

I can make you see things, you never thought where there

To make you change your ways, I can be your conscience

You can be my mirror too

Be me, let me be you,

But only with impact.

But what you and I cannot do is change how I mirror you and how you mirror me,

Which is how we impact one another,

Remember when we go, it stays.

Impact is greater than life itself

Life ends but it doesn’t.

Adieu oh shame,

Oh I envy you,

Nothing truly lasts forever,

Just like yesterday, I remember

You were with high esteem,

You had your garments sown with pride,

And you walked with so much confidence amongst your men.

You were the fear of many,

You provided correction to those astray,

You were the police to many consciences,

The world was really a better place with you,

But then it was never meant to be,

It was all short lived.

You left,

Not on your own terms,

And not by your will,

The years that came ahead were too strong,

Way to strong you couldn’t survive,

Now we live with you,

But with no fear for of you,

Men who couldn’t look you in the eyes now dance in front of you.

Vain has taken your seat in the court,

There’s no more checks to actions,

Open mindedness is the disguise for the lack of your presence,

Oh I wish,

That you’d be embraced one more time,

That you’d just come in to activeness again,

Oh I wish,

That we’d look upon you with fear again,

Maybe you’ll once again serve as a guide to our choices.

Segun’s Voice

Casting my net into the river,

Ive distorted my reflection,

I Gazed up in despair,

almost blinded by the ray from the sun,

I cast my gaze away,

But upon my shadow,

A conversation began silently,

“Hey there,

How’s it going with you?

Been a minute,

Have I been a good human?

Only you can tell,

Since you see it all,

With you nothing is hidden,

What will you judge me on today?”

I got no answer,

Silence stretched the hands of time,

I looked away from my shadow,

Gazed deep into the river again,

Seems settled from my distortion,

A clear image of myself I see now,

A conversation began Loudly in my head,

“ To catch a fish,

I have to distort this reflection,

or rather, I wallow in the beauty of this reflection and go hungry,

If I’ll lose myself not to go hungry,

then I’m willing to shatter this reflection.”

I cast my gaze back upon my shadow,

Silently he sits,

Judging me I believe,

Thinking I must be mad.

SKD’s Voice

As I mosey in my garden palace,

my shadow stretches with malice.

Eye to eye, face to face,

will there be grace?

The sun bears witness,

leaf and soil restless.

You darken where I bloom,

proving depth is not a tomb.

You know every season I survived,

every frost I named as faith.

Walk with me,

but do not pretend you lead.

A soul I seek,

in the shadow I see.

This is not a conundrum.

This is me.

As I pace this corridor,

Faint lights twists my shadow,

My steps gets lighter,

And my head gets heavier,

Every room has its door shut,

But I can hear voices,

Very faint ones,

Echoes of laughter from within the walls,

Mockery!

Laughter that beckons mockery,

With each steps, the laughter grew faint.

These echoes of shame,

Still, can’t figure it out,

I bow my head,

I give in to defeat,

What’s left now?

Nothing!

What’s hidden is out,

The bad that I try to hide is known,

My mask is off,

Now I’m war, but not the peace I portray,

I’m promiscuous, not faithful,

Now that’s known,

The mirror that once reflected me is broken,

A distorted image is what I see,

This corridor is no longer the same,

The echoes from it feels like a wilderness,

I hear strange sounds,

If only a door will open,

But who will take the devil in?

I am not the fallen angel, but I’ve fallen,

With broken wings that can’t lift me up,

How long I remain down is not known,

Unless these wings heal.

I cried but the sun laughed,

I danced at the edge of the moon,

the stars wished I fell off,

I tried catching my breath, my lungs failed me,

and yet my body rejects me,

I seek joy,

the earth repels my aim,

thunder strikes my purpose in two,

now the universe rejects me,

so where is love ?

where's the refuge she provides,

where is the peace she gives,

instead, she gave me pain as relief,

she unleashed jealousy on me,

Now I'm drenched in tears,

rain has deserted me,

Now my soul is in drought,

the universe laughs at me,

everything stands against me,

here I am,

I stand alone.

Good morning, it’s so bright but your black shines,

The line that ended the story,

Hold me no sinner,

But a villain to my story.

You my black queen,

Ants mount in sugars,

Sugar, my heart,

Ant, you,

A match, that’s what we are,

But your black still shines.

You took my breath away,

A common line,

What you did,

You took it literally,

Away goes my breath…

But guess who fought for my life?

You my shining melanin,

Still your black shines.

Your love, my type

One presented in a beautiful wrap,

A mixture of wine and lemon,

With dead flowers,

A confused state it created,

Still your black shines.

I’m not lost,

But a prisoner? Yes

A free one,

Chosen by will,

Though what your love is I can’t define,

But your blackness is definite,

It’s pronounced.

And that’s my cage with walls.

Sit by my side and sing me a song

as I catch this painful breath,

with your melody my soul will flow,

your rhymes tell my heart’s rhythm,

you hold life in every stanza,

tears drop with every symphony,

set me free with  your lyrics,

for the chains of pleasure tie me down in oblivion…

Lungs that hold firm

I’m not afraid,

But I weep,

Not for us,

I cry,

But for after we’ll be gone,

The pain that won’t be felt,

Not by us,

But for you that’ll be left.

What pain will be felt ?

Or would you rather prefer joy and charity after you’re gone ?

I put it to you !

Pain will measure what level of happiness you brought to people when you existed.

“Luther”  died we wailed,

And you know why we did.

“Adolf” died and it was a shout of joy.

You as well know why,

Hence I weep,

There will be less pain when most are gone,

Because you merely lived nor existed.

LET IT BE....

peace eludes me,

i'm hurt, deeply,

was told to never let it bother me,

hold it like "water off a ducks back"

So I was told!

It really holds no meaning,

so they said,

but i know myself,

it really does hold value,

i mean if it didn't,

why fight this hard?

truth be told, it shouldn't hold value,

but from no value, i gave it value,

now it's hard to just watch or handle with levity,

yeah, architect of my predicament,

A name I coined,

On gold,

listen, learn how to let things be!

if it's not meant to be, it won't,

That’s a universe’s logic,

and when you then try to force it,

thats you starting out on a junky journey, you'll need pain killers along this trip,

you'll get overdozed, yet it wont work,

you'll go about seeking a cure except employing the actual cure,

which is letting it be.

But that which i should let be, gives me joy

its a source of happiness,

would i quit happiness knowing sadness would set in,

things i tried to run away from,

now i'm well caught up

a stage of confusion,

I’m the host, standing,

one i could have avoided

so learn from me,

when things stress you out, and you cant control it

just let it be.

though i know not where to go from here,

i know not what my end is

i'll ride my wave anywhere it leads

ready for the consequence

That i know will bring painful tears and sorrow,

but i'll breathe !

Judy is king

A butter

Oh a cheese I mean

The type that melts on bread

More like a cheese melting into a potato

Judy is soft

A pillow

One that makes you use the word “comfy”

Judy is a rain

You know she wets the ground

The type that takes the heat away

One that makes the earth produce a sweet smell

Oh that smell

Nostalgic right?

Judy is a sun

One that brings end to winter

The type that makes people dress less and come out more

Oh I almost forgot

Judy is a snow too

One the makes Christmas beautiful

The type that makes you forget it’s cold and chilly

You see

Judy is everything that’s needed

Irrespective of the situation

Judy can be called upon

But who helps Judy ?

Judy is not a God

Judy is you

Judy is me

Judy is a girl and he is a boy

a symbol of hope

One like the gate to paradise,

This ray of light, your eyes,

A touch of honey on lips,

Sweet music to ears

And when you smile,

The heavens blow their trumpets,

And like the Israelites worshiped God

your smile should be eulogised,

That Safe spot is when you smile

It’s like pausing time

And this is Just to cherish the moment your timeless smile makes the world happy✨

who anchor us when the tide rises too high,

who stand steady when storms hits our hearts.

The friend who fight our wars for us,

whose hands find ours in moments of costly mistakes,

who fills the spaces left empty

by siblings, by time, by life itself.

The ones who speak without words,

whose presence whispers

“You are not alone,”

Even when we turn them away

They carry our burdens when we cannot,

they celebrate the quiet victories

we forget to notice,

they remind us of our worth

without demanding proof.

These friends are rare,

like sunlight slipping through the clouds,

they shine on our lives

like wind that carries the scent of home

and when we find them,

we hold them close,

They are “family”

who make life rosy

who make the world feel a little safer.
